Theocharidis is in his third season with the Canadians and was named an assistant captain heading into the year.

After coming to Carleton Place from the Ajax-Pickering Raiders AAA association, Theocharidis has spent the last two seasons with the Canadians helping to develop him into the player he is now.

“My first year, not too much playing time but it was a good learning process and a good stepping stone for me,” he said. “We went to the RBC Cup (that year) and it was a good experience.”

Theocharidis said, as an assistant captain, it’s about helping to set the example but also that the leadership group extends beyond the four players wearing letters on their jerseys.

“Everyone’s a leader in the room. Everyone’s got to speak up when something is going on to calm the guys down,” he said.

Theocharidis describes himself as an offensive defenceman, and his near point-per-game pace to start the season, seven points in nine games, reflects that.

“I like to move up in the play when it’s the right moment. Good defensively, have my guy, good stick in the defensive zone.”

Prior to the start of last season, he committed to play at Bowling Green State University.

“It wasn’t too much of a big decision for me, it was pretty much the only school I was talking to,” Theocharidis said. “They approached me, they really liked me, they offered me and I said yes. It was pretty simple, I liked the school and the way they talked to me and how they think of me and how they want me to come into the school in 2018.”

Last season, he had the chance to represent his country as won a silver medal with Team Canada East at the World Jr. A Challenge.
