Strong Powerplay leads to 4th Straight Win

The Carleton Place Canadians Tier 2 team won their 4th straight game on Saturday night 8-2 over the Alexandria Glens. The Canadians dominated on their man advantage opportunities, scoring on 5 of their 8 powerplays.

“It was nice to see our powerplay really start to click,” said Head Coach John Ollson. “I think they ended up taking a lot of penalties because of how well we were skating and getting on the puck.”

It was by far the best performance of the season for a powerplay that came into the game ranked 10th in the league. A near perfect game for the special teams saw the penalty kill go 7 for 7.

The first three goals of the game came from Andrew Vanderklei and Cameron Patton, with Patton scoring twice.

Alexandre Elie scored the Glens first goal midway through the 2nd period to make the score 3-1. A couple of minutes later the Glens took a 5 minute major for a head contact hit on Canadians forward Alex Vala. Vala did not return to the game.

Ryland Mosley scored twice in 44 seconds during the 5 minute powerplay to extend the lead to 5-1. Reece Bolton scored off a one touch pass from Cameron Patton to give the Canadians a 6-1 lead heading to the 3rd. Final period tallies came from Brayden Campeau and Oliver Carriere.

Vincent Bujold-Roux made 21 saves in net to improve his record to 14-6. Bujold-Roux sits 3rd in the league in Goals Against Average (2.32) and Save Percentage (.923).

The loss was only the Glens second defeat since December 9th. “This team was 9-1 in their last 10 so we knew we had to come out hard, get in a good warm-up, get ready to go and get all lines firing,” said Canadians defenceman Josh Mills.

With the win Carleton Place stay in first place, two points up on Westport and four points up on Athens as both those teams also won tonight.

“Coming down the stretch it’s going to be tough, we are going to have to battle through some close games and keep working hard if we want home ice advantage for the playoffs,” Mills added.

The Canadians are on the road Wednesday night to take on Arnprior (15-23-1). That game is followed with two huge games in a home-and-home with Westport Friday and Saturday.
