Jr. Canadians Shutout Brockville

The Carleton Place Canadians Tier 2 hockey team picked up their 5th win in their last 6 games on Saturday night. They out shot the Brockville Tikis 42-10 on their way to a 4-0 win. Jacob Lavergne improved to 10-3-1 and got his first shutout of the season.

Spencer Marshall opened the scoring in the first period. Ryland Mosley added a powerplay goal with 20 seconds left in the opening frame.

Reece Bolton had the lone goal in the second period. The 4th and final goal of the game was scored by Aiden Parnell with 9:13 remaining.

The Canadians opened up a 4 point lead on the Westport Rideaus for 1st place in the Richardson Division. Westport have two games in hand.

CPC are now 9-3 in divisional games this season and 6-0 against the bottom 3 teams in the Martin Division.

“You can’t take anybody for granted,” said Head Coach John Ollson. “Every team can win on any given night in this league. You have to work hard and prepare in practice and play 60 minutes of hockey. That has been the message all year.”

Lavergne’s shutout was his first of the year and the team’s 4th. Lavergne (2.80) and Vincent Bujold-Roux (2.40) are both top 5 in the league in Goals Against Average.

“Any time we put either one of them in were confident we will get a good performance,” Ollson noted. “They have been pretty solid all year and our defensive system where our 3rd man is high and comes back all the time is why we are a good defensive team and we work on that all the time.”

Spencer Marshall was credited with his 2nd game winning goal of the season on Saturday.

“I think all four lines played well, coming off a big win last game we kept things rolling into tonight,” said Marshall. Marshall is one of 6 players on the current roster playing for his hometown team. “It is a big honor to be playing for this program, I used to have billets growing up and I wanted to be like them so it is great to have the opportunity to play for this organization.”

The next part of the schedule has the Canadians playing 6 of their next 7 games against teams from the Martin Division. The Canadians host the Char-Lan Rebels (6-17-1) on Tuesday night before their final meeting with the Embrun Panthers (15-9-2) on Saturday.
