Along with the Jr. A teams starting their seasons, their Under-18 AAA squads are also getting the pucks dropped on their years with a Showcase Weekend at the Bell Sensplex in Kanata, Ont.
The Carleton Place Canadians U18 team began on Friday with a 6-4 loss against the Brockville Braves U18. Canadians captain Brendan Hill paced him team offensively, collecting three points (one goal, two assists) in the losing effort.
It was a rough start for Carleton Place as just over two minutes into the game, Brockville had a 2-0 lead after Cameron Cotnam and Tyler McCullough struck for goals 0:32 apart.
Brayden Davidson cut the Braves lead in half with a power play goal 9:02 into the second period, but a pair of goals from Max Birnie on both sides of the second intermission. The two teams traded goals for the rest of the third period but Carleton Place couldn’t get any closer than two goals behind the Braves.
As the score would suggest, both goalies were kept busy Friday night as Colby Drummond faced 34 shots in the Carleton Place net, while Everett Lindahl had 40 shots come his direction in the Braves net.
Carleton Place continued their showcase weekend on Saturday night with a match-up against the Cornwall Colts U18 team.
