The Carleton Place Canadians allowed three straight goals against the Ottawa Jr Senators on route to a 3-2 over-time loss Wednesday night.

Carleton Place controlled the game in the first two periods, out-shooting Ottawa 32-17, and scored the first two goals as a result. Goals from Cameron Patton and David Poirier 1:10 apart gave the Canadians a 2-0 lead 3:22 into the second period, but the team wasn’t able to hold on defensively to get the win.

Just over two minutes after getting the two-goal advantage, Ethan Manderville brought Ottawa to within a goal. The Canadians were able to keep the Jr Senators at bay until late in the third period, when Geoff Dempster beat Connor Murphy to tie the game at 2-2.

The over-time period nearly went the distance before Elie Boulerice scored the game-winning goal with 0:55 remaining in the extra period.

Carleton Place’s loss wasn’t a result of a lack of chances as they sent 41 shots on the Ottawa net. They just couldn’t find a way to beat Francis Boisvert for more than two goals.

Despite winning the first meeting of the season, Carleton Place has struggled in the other games against their foe in the past three Bogart Cup Finals. Since the game that opened the season for both teams, Ottawa has won each of the three games they have played with Wednesday’s game being the only one that has gone past regulation.

In fact, despite being first in the CCHL, the Canadians have managed to hover around a .500-record against the other top teams in the league. Against the Brockville Braves, Hawkesbury Hawks, Ottawa, the Canadians are a combined 5-3-5. When playing the rest of the league, Carleton Place has a record of 28-7-1.
