U18 loses close game to Cornwall

It was another close game for the Carleton Place Canadians Under-18 AAA team, but wound up on the wrong end of a 2-1 score against the Cornwall Colts U18 AAA team Saturday night.

An early power-play goal by Jeremy Cyr put the Canadians behind in the first period on back-to-back nights as Carleton Place begins their season as part of the HEO Midget AAA Showcase at the Bell Sensplex.

Brayden Davidson scored a power-play goal midway through the second period to tie the game, but a Joshua Barnes goal a little more than three minutes later put Cornwall back in front.

Carleton Place outshot its opposition, however the advantage in shots didn’t translate to an advantage on the scoreboard for a second consecutive game.

Joe Ranger got the start for the Canadians, after not playing on Friday, and stopped 26 of 28 shots he faced. Summy Mughal made 32 saves on 33 shots against.

The Showcase Weekend wraps up for Carleton Place with a meeting with the Smiths Falls Bears U18 team at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday.
