Tier 2 Canadians are Rolling to Start the Second Half

The Tuesday night win over Char-Lan marked the halfway point of the Carleton Place Canadians Tier 2 schedule. Through 26 games the Jr. Canadians record was 18-7-1 and they won 6 of their last 7 contests.

“I think we have come out a bit stronger than we imagined with this being the inaugural season,” said defenseman Eastan Eckert of Kitchener. “But now we want to keep up with this pace.”

Two huge wins on the weekend over Embrun (16-11-2) and Ottawa (21-4-2) have CPC riding a 5 game win streak. They have extended their lead in the Richardson Division to 8 points. Second place Athens (16-8-1) have played 3 less games.

“I am very happy with where we are,” said Head Coach John Ollson. “I wanted to be in the top 3, I don’t think we have exceeded expectations though and we have a long way to go.”

Saturday night was the final meeting of the regular season between Carleton Place and Embrun. The Panthers won the previous two games and were looking for the season series sweep.

Coming off his first shutout of the season, Jacob Lavergne won his second straight start with 17 saves. His record is now 11-3-1.

The Canadians overcame 2-0 and 3-1 deficits in the game. Second period goals from Martin Templeton and Oliver Carriere had the Canadians down just 3-2 entering the final period.

Templeton tied the game with his second of the night 6:49 into the 3rd period. Ryland Mosley’s goal with 5:56 remaining stood as the game winner and CP won by a final score of 4-3.

Mosley’s point streak was finally snapped on Sunday. He had an incredible stretch accumulating 18 goals and 10 assists in 14 games. He leads the league with 46 points this season.

On Sunday night it was Cameron Patton and Hisham Barayan that got things rolling. Carleton Place led 2-0 after 1 period.

An Ottawa goal cut the lead in half but Ethan Wardman answered for Carleton Place to give them a 3-1 lead heading to the 3rd period.

Ottawa had 3 powerplay chances in the 3rd but were unable to score. Wardman added an empty net goal and CPC won 4-1.

Vincent Bujold-Roux won his 7th consecutive start by making 27 saves. During the 7 game win streak he has allowed just 10 goals and his 2.33 Goals Against Average is 3rd best in the league. His record for the season is 9-4.

The tough stretch of the schedule continues on Saturday when the Canadians host 4-time defending champion Casselman (19-3-2). The Canadians will then go to Ottawa West (14-7-3) on December 7th.
