Ottawa Defeat Jr. Canadians in Game 1

Ottawa defeated Carleton Place in Game 1 of the CCHL2 semi-finals 3-1 on Tuesday night. Goalie of the Year Ryan Whitehurst made 32 saves to earn the victory and improve his playoff record to 5-2.

Andre Giordano scored just after a Carleton Place penalty had expired on a shot from the blueline. Ottawa led 1-0 at the 1st intermission despite being out shot 12-4.

Ryland Mosley tied the game halfway through the 2nd period for his league leading 10th goal of the playoffs. Cameron Patton sent a backhand pass from below the goal line that found Mosley all alone in front of the net.

Mateo Balenger shot high on Bujold-Roux off a wrap around to score the game winner with 5:12 left in the second period. Declan Hilton added an empty netter for his 6th goal of the playoffs.

After Whitehurst allowed 7 goals in Game 1 of the quarter-finals, he has allowed only 8 in the last 6 games. His 1.84 goals against average is the best in the playoffs.

Game 2 is scheduled for 7:45pm on Friday night in Carleton Place. The series will then shift to Ottawa for games 3 and 4 on Saturday and Tuesday.
