Jr Canadians top Renfrew for 3rd Straight Win

The Renfrew Timberwolves traveled to Carleton Place for a Sunday afternoon game against the tier 2 Canadians. The Timberwolves were shorthanded with only 12 skaters and Carleton Place jumped out to a big lead early in the game.

After Jacob Steege put Renfrew up 1-0, the Canadians scored 8 unanswered goals, 6 of them coming in the 1st period.

Spencer Marshall, Alex Vala (2), Josh Mills, Cameron Patton and Oliver Carriere had goals in the opening period.

“We are really coming together now,” said forward Oliver Carriere. “We are all rolling, checking into the systems and because of that things are going well.”

Carriere is from Carleton Place and has had the opportunity to play up with Jr. A team in 3 games. “Quite an honor to play with the best team in Canada. Seeing what they do on the ice pushes you even harder to try to get to the next level.”

Alex Vala ended the game with 4 goals and 2 assists. He has 9 goals and 2 assists in the last 4 games.

Jacob Lavergne made 27 saves in net to improve to 16-6-2 this season.

The Canadians have 4 games left on the regular season schedule and getting all 8 points will clinch 1st place in the Richardson Division.

“We have to take every game,” said Head Coach John Ollson. “We play Renfrew again Friday and we’ll practice hard for that, just trying to take it one game at a time because every point is important.”

It will be a busy week for Renfrew with games on Tuesday and Thursday as well. Friday night’s game at Ma-te-way Rink is scheduled for 8pm. Carleton Place are then in Cobden on Saturday night against Whitewater (26-22-0).
