Jr Canadians Advance to the Semi-Finals

The Carleton Place Canadians Tier 2 hockey team have advanced to the semi-finals after a 6-1 win in Game 7 over the Renfrew Timberwolves. Carleton Place will play the Ottawa Canadians in the next round, with the series scheduled to begin in CP on Tuesday night.

A Josh Mills wrist shot made its way through traffic in front of the net to open the scoring 5:58 into the 1st period. Less than two minutes later Ryland Mosley scored his 9th goal of the series.

The Canadians continued to extend their lead converting on two powerplays before the 1st intermission. Eastan Eckert scored on their first man advantage of the game, skating in from the blue line and snapping a shot to the top of the net. Back-to-back Renfrew penalties later in the period gave the Canadians a 5-on-3. Martin Templeton one-timed a slap shot past Dane Brumm to give Carleton Place a four goal lead after 20 minutes.

Reece Bolton scored the 5th Canadians goal. He came in to the offensive zone, cut to the top of the slot and sent a shot blocker side and in to the net. Andrew Vanderklei added the 6th goal, taking Brayden Campeau’s pass from behind the net to score his 1st of the playoffs. Carleton Place led 6-0 with 20 minutes left in regulation.

Austin Scheuneman scored the only Timberwolves goal 1:33 into the 3rd.

Vincent Bujold-Roux started all 7 games in net for the Canadians. He made 19 saves on Saturday night.

“We battled hard all series and played really well tonight,” said Canadians captain Eastan Eckert. Eckert, a 17 year old from Kitchener, was named team captain after the regular season had started. “It has a been an honour to lead this team and have such a strong group of guys to play with.”

Carleton Place are the 2 seed and will have home ice advantage against Ottawa. CP won 2 of their 3 regular season games against Ottawa.

“I am really happy for our guys, they had a such a good regular season and we were dominant in the games that we won. They definitely deserve to be moving on,” said Head Coach John Ollson. “It’s going to be a lot of fun playing Ottawa, their a great team and I love going to Earl Armstrong Arena.”
