Dominate Powerplay leads Jr. Canadians Over Athens

A Reece Bolton powerplay goal 1:21 into the game set the tone for a great night for the Carleton Place Jr. Canadians on the man advantage. Five powerplay goals on 12 chances led Carleton Place to a 6-0 win over the visiting Athens Aeros.

“The success on the powerplay comes down to executing the passes, getting lots of shots on net, and having traffic in front of the goalie. I think we have done a better job of that lately,” said Head Coach John Ollson.

Alex Vala scored 3 goals and now has 5 in last 3 games if you include his game winner for the Jr. A club on Friday night. Vala was acquired in a trade with the Richmond Royals on January 3rd.

“The team is really coming together, we have had some ups and downs and lost some close games,” said Vala. “Today was a big game and we felt if we want to be contenders in the playoffs we had to win tonight,” he continued, “we came out hard, made good passes, moved are feet and had a lot of poise.”

Ryland Mosley scored his 37th goal of the season in the 2nd period. The University of Alabama-Huntsville commit is tied for 2nd in the league with 74 points. On Tuesday, Mosley was named CCHL2 Player of the Month for January.

Vincent Bujold-Roux picked up the win in net for the Canadians. The 21 save shutout was his league leading 5th of the season and he improved his record to 16-7.

“I felt really great and the guys played really well in front of me,” said Bujold-Roux. “We are really confident, especially after this game, that was a huge win for us.”

His head coach gave him a lot of credit; “That was not a 6-0 game without a great effort by Vinny in the net. We gave up a lot of 2-on-1s and breakaways, and he just shut the door all night long.”

Carleton Place travel to play Ottawa West (25-14-5) on Thursday night. They return home Sunday afternoon for a game against Renfrew (20-19-5).
